Float/Fall is a floating video installation. The work consists of a helium-filled weather balloon tethered to a mini video projector. It floats above tree height over a pedestrian friendly area. The projector is positioned below the balloon, facing up, so that the image is projected on to the bottom portion of the sphere. The image in the video is the only light cast onto the balloon.
Float/Fall is a balancing act between opposing forces. This work is a construction about light, gravity, momentum, stasis, and the liminal area between those forces. The projected video contains a figure, shot from below, that is in a perpetual state of falling. The figure morphs into and out of various positions, outfits, and situations. The work explores tension and balance in a myriad of ways.
